Planes Falling from the Sky: Ground Handling Takes on a New Meaning

You might be excused for thinking that employment was a big deal at the moment. Government policies aimed at increasing employment are a Good Thing – particularly if they do not cost terribly much. Workplaces that are increasingly competitive, you might think, would welcome rule changes that allow for more flexibility and competition and the ability to offer their customers better prices. Unions too, one might think, would welcome strategies that potentially increase their potential membership and increase employment.

Duelling ATM Conferences: Awards at Dawn

As we have previously reported, the arcane world of ATM conferences is aflame. In-boxes around the world are being bombarded with emails extolling the virtue and superiority of one of the two ATM conferences to be held early next year. One, the well-known and time-tested ATC Global, held in early March in Amsterdam, run by a commercial entity UBM, and a second one, the new kid on the block, the CANSO and ATCA organised World ATM Congress, in Madrid in mid-February.

Cargo Security: Pallet-loads of Common Sense

Regular readers might have noticed that the Aviation Intelligence Reporter can be sceptical about the way in which ICAO operates, and indeed, the ways in which it’s Member States allow it to work. So it is with much delight we can report a good story out of Montreal.

European Business Aviation – The Thinking Person’s Guide

The European business aviation sector was on the brink in 2009. Reaping the whirlwind of the global financial crisis, the private jet industry bubble burst spectacularly. Jet deliveries, pricing and traffic levels plunged. Then there came a tentative two year recovery. In 2012, business jet activity in Europe has double-dipped and is back on its knees.

Waiting for Godot: The European Court of Justice and Passenger Rights

‘Judges are merely law students who mark their own papers’ grumbled H.L. Mencken, curmudgeon for the 20th century. He would enjoy the antics at the European Court of Justice. The judges are busy marking up the Commission’s Passenger Rights Regulation EC 261/2004 for two decisions due October 4.

FABulous Regulation

Another presidency of the Union, another summit about how to get to a Single European Sky. Now it is Cyprus’ turn to push for more action. The great and the good gather in Limassol this month to meet to discuss again an agenda headed ‘Time for Action’. The agenda never changes, only the location does, presumably to protect the innocent.
