For aficionados of boxing this is a golden age. The undercard was Mayweather v Paquiao; won on points using an all-defence-all-the-time strategy. No risk of that in the main event, the Legacy Carriers v Gulf Carriers Tag-Team Grudge Match. The gloves are off. Settle in ringside for what promises to be a knock-em-down-drag-em-out affair.

Worshipping at the Temple of ICAO
Theology is a difficult topic in polite society. It is one of those irregular nouns. Ours is a church; yours is a sect; theirs is a cult. That is equally the case in aviation. Business Aviation: Bubble at the Top?
A favourite word of the business aviation industry in recent years has been ‘bifurcation’. It describes the contrasting trends in the sales and activity of large jets, compared to midsize and light jets. It also highlights the contrasting fortunes of the business jet OEMs. The seemingly recession-proof popularity of large jets, and the decline and stagnation in demand for small aircraft, reflects the economic reality that not everyone suffers equally in a global economic downturn.

Rub Out That Line! The Perils of Pre-Clearance
One of the most ironic things that has come out of the stoush between the US carriers and their Gulf nemeses slipped out during the press conference held by the CEO of Qatar Airways Akbar Al Bakar, referred to above. Another one for the ‘Unintended Consequences’ file. Or perhaps the ‘Zagged when you should have Zigged’ file. It turns out that the US Customs Pre-Clearance service available for flights to the US from Abu Dhabi slows down the passenger transfer and boarding process.
