Pilots in the United States, we are told, are on the warpath. They are very disturbed about Norwegian International Airlines’ low tax structure. The American trade association, the unfortunately named Airlines 4 America (yes, we know it is the wrong word), is on the warpath. They do not like high taxes. They like low tax solutions. But they dislike Norwegian because it dared to propose a lower tax structure. IATA is on the warpath too. Their target is the UK’s departure tax, which it too high. EBACE 2014: What we Learnt
The strap-line for this year’s European Business Aviation Conference, Ebace, was ‘Business aviation, the fastest route from B to B’. It made sense to emphasise the fundamental business purpose of the industry sector and underline its time-saving directness in a global economy which requires ever more connectivity. As scheduled airlines progressively retreat from small airports in favour of large hubs, business aviation needs to promote its unique ability to connect the dots.
