EBACE 2011: Who are you going to believe – me, or your lyin’ eyes?

Asked to comment on Vistajet’s rapid growth during Europe’s annual business aviation conference and exhibition (EBACE), owner Thomas Flohr pointed out that more than 75% of their flights originate or terminate in fast-growth markets. The flights are purchased by individuals insisting on brand new, ever larger, longer range and more luxurious aircraft. His candour (and quite possibly his hair style) probably explain why his was the only EBACE story picked up on TV.

We need to talk about ATAG

The Lionel Shriver novel We need to talk about Kevin explores a family that is painfully brought to realise the need to talk about one of their own. He is dysfunctional, to say the least, killing seven people in a shooting spree. The novel is a series of letters between Kevin’s estranged parents. The letters explore the way Kevin was brought up, his relationship with his sibling and the warning signs that his parents ignored.

Having a good ash cloud

Say what you like about ash clouds, they bring good weather. Last year’s ash cloud crisis was in part caused, if you believe the official IATA line, by the fact that the regulators were enjoying the first nice weekend of the year, rather than keeping aircraft flying. This year too, the ash cloud was up there in the clear blue sky over Europe.

Sound-bite bingo: IATA DG’s farewell speech – a cut-out-and-keep guide

IATA’s DG Giovanni Bisignani will give his farewell speech to IATA’s members, assembled for their annual General Meeting this month. The meeting is in Singapore, rather than the originally scheduled Cairo.

Bio-Fuels – What about the other 199%

To much fanfare, Airbus led an industry workshop in Brussels in mid-May to launch an ‘Implementation Plan that proposes a Road Map’ to set out ‘A performing biofuels supply chain for EC aviation’. The workshop was to get industry buy-in before this Road Map proposing Implementation Plan is publicly launched at the Paris Air Show in mid-June.
