The IATA 2050 Vision: putting customers fourth

The IATA AGM, never short of metaphor opportunities, did itself proud this year in Berlin. And full marks to the IATA communications people for getting into the swing with their pre-event press release:
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is IATA’s pre-eminent event. In addition to the statutory obligations, the formalising of industry positions and the evidencing of airline unity, the AGM provides a focus for emerging industry issues and a forum for Members to meet and network.

The CANSO AGM: will Waypoint point the way?

Having said goodbye to Imagine 2010, the previous CANSO strategy, CANSO is now working its way to a new statement of intent. The recent CANSO AGM, held in Oslo a week after the IATA one, saw a further iteration of ‘Waypoint’.

Ash clouds and too much disclosure

The recent volcanic ash cloud seems to have had a number of obtuse outcomes. For some people, it has brought forth too much disclosure of facts that might be better left clouded.

All clear on the Eastern Front

Since Soviet Russian times, aircraft from Europe wishing to overfly Russian airspace have been required to pay a licence fee to the Kremlin which then in turn forwards this to Aeroflot. Originally, this was compensation for Aeroflot itself not doing the service. The European Commission calculates that the licence fees paid by European airlines are more than $1,000,000 a day. …

European Airspace Reform? The States say no

The European Council for Transport met in late June to ratify a number of issues that have been on the agenda for some time. To much fanfare, indeed more fanfare than content, the second stage of the EU-US bilateral was finalised; various decisions surrounding the network coordinator for the Single European Sky was agreed; and, the performance framework adopted.
